Sep 2009 Cloud Storage: Enabling the Distributed Datacenter
Cloud storage is a real, growing and potentially highly disruptive market opportunity that is already delivering cost efficiencies to end users as they embrace IT-as- service models. Successful vendors and service providers will be those that can deliver or enable cloud storage that is highly scalable, cost-effective and easy to integrate with user environments. Further out, success will be determined by more sophisticated capabilities such as support for cloud federation, and value-added services around effective data management.
Our research shows that more than 25% of public cloud users and 35% of private cloud users say they are utilizing clouds for disaster-recovery purposes, while over 33% of public and private users say they are now using the cloud for remote storage purposes. In fact, we believe storage has rapidly become an essential requirement of any successful cloud computing strategy.
This report examines the cloud storage market in depth, including the evolution of the technology, drivers and deployment models, and profiles of 26 vendors and service providers.
